The properties of thyroglobulin. XV. The function of the protein in the control of diiodotyrosine synthesis.

چکیده
Thyroglobulin has been iodinated at pH 9.35 and the distribution of iodoamino acids has been determined. Iodination results in a decrease in the tyrcsyl and an increase in the diiodotyrosyl difference spectra peaks. The spectral changes indicate that tyrosyl groups, which are more or less shielded from the solvent, can also react with iodine. Based on recent model studies on the rates of iodination of Nacetyltyrosine and N-acetyliodotyrosine, it is suggested that the environment of the tyrosyl groups determines the relative amounts of monoiodotyrosine and diiodotyrosine that are synthesized. A functional role of the native form of the protein is thus envisioned in the control of the products formed by iodination.

The Enzymic Synthesis from Thyroid Diiodo- Tyrosine Peptone of an Artificial Protein Which Relieves Myxedema*
This report describes the enzymic synthesis of an artificial protein which relieves clinical myxedema. The enzyme used was pepsin, applied under conditions suggested by Wasteneys and Borsook (1, 2) which reverse its usual digestive effect. As previously reported, the starting material or substrate was the diiodotyrosine peptone obtained by the peptic digestion of human thyroglobulin (3, 4). Thi...
متن کاملP20: The Role of Protein Kinases in Memory
When an experience is encrypted into a long-lasting memory, it is believed that specific sets of neurons in the brain of the animal undergo changes including the strengthening of preexisting synapses and the growth and maintenance of new synaptic connections. These activity-dependent synaptic changes appear to require the coordination of a variety of cellular processes in spatially separated ce...
متن کاملThe Properties of Thyroglobulin VIII. THE IODINATION OF THYROGLOBULIN
It has been shown that when thyroglobulin is iodinated, a marked intensification occurs in its absorption spectrum in the region of 300 to 3fXl rnp in alkaline solution (1). It is also well known that the absorption peaks of iodinated tyrosine and thyronine derivatives occur in this spectral zone (2). A procedure based on these factors has been developed which permits the simultaneous determina...
متن کاملF EEDBACK REGU LATION OF COLONYSTIMULATING FACTOR PRODUCTION
The production of colony-stimulating factors (CSF) is delicately controlled through a complex network of humoral and environmental factors. We have studied some of the mechanisms which regulate the production of CSF as compared to general protein synthesis in the lung tissue ill vitro. When lung tissue from mice was cultured for various times in serum free medium, the first detectable le...
متن کاملSynthesis and characterization of physicochemical and immunological properties of recombinant NS3-G2 dendrimer conjugate
Introduction: An effective vaccine against HCV infection is not available. The non-structural protein 3 (NS3) of the virus as an important immunogenic candidate has been utilized in various modules. Nanostructured polymers have been recently used for efficient vaccine and drug delivery. The aim of the current study was the synthesis of rNS3-G2 conjugate and preliminary evaluation of its immunog...
